Why Lighter Is Better...
There is a huge advantage to having lighter equipment. If
skaters combine both light-weight boots and our Paramount
Blades, it can make a skater as much as 2 to 5 pounds lighter,
a huge weight savings.
The skater will be less tired when using the lighter equipment;
it will be easier to land a triple or quad jump later in their
program.
The big problem is that the weight of the skate and blade
is on the very end of the leg (lever arm), where maximum leverage
is needed. It's like holding your arm out if front of you
while holding a three pound weight. Your arm will get tired.
Your legs work the same way and a little weight makes a big
difference. 1-3 pounds is a huge amount of weight at the end
of each foot. During a skating program the skater can lift
their feet about a hundred times. Multiply this by 3 - 5 total
pounds on the skater and this is 300 to 500 pounds extra of
work the skater has to lift!
